In the Netherlands, astronomical spring begins on the 20th of March and ends on the 21st of June.
This is usually a season that a lot of people in the upper latitudes love because it’s the end of the dreaded, depressing winter and the beginning of endless sunlight in the summer. As long as you don’t have allergies.
I hate spring.
For me, it is a reminder that the nice, cozy, cold days of winter are over, and that the endless, mind-numbing, scorching heat of the summer is about to set in.
If we were going to pick favourites, I would choose Fall or Autumn. Fall is a reminder of the end of summer, it brings relief from heat. Additionally, it is the intermediate state before we get to the most comfortable season, Winter. Fall brings joy with post-summer relief, and brings excitement with pre-winter anticipation.
Alas, in about one month, Spring will be over, and Summer will begin. I am dreading it already. You might already know from a previous post that my brain decides to stop working whenever the sun is out for too long.
And because I have a thesis I need to write… this does not bode well for me.
